Lake Mohave Bass Fishing Guide for 2026

Lake Mohave — the quieter Mead-to-Havasu sneak fishery. Striper, rainbow trout, and the occasional largemouth on the Lower Colorado.

Lake Mohave sits between Hoover Dam (Lake Mead) and Davis Dam, the next reservoir down the Lower Colorado before Lake Havasu. It's a 67-mile-long, narrow reservoir that fishes more like a wide river than the open-water reservoirs above and below it. Most anglers drive past Mohave on the way to somewhere else. That's a mistake.

What Mohave holds

  • Striped bass — a real population. Quieter schooling behaviour than Mead but the deep Black Canyon water holds quality fish.
  • Rainbow trout — Mohave is one of the few warm- climate rainbow fisheries in the Southwest. The cold Hoover tailwater keeps the upper end of the lake cool enough for stocked rainbows year-round.
  • Largemouth and smallmouth bass — limited but present, particularly in the back of side canyons.
  • Channel catfish — abundant, particularly at night.

Where to launch

Cottonwood Cove (NV) is the main mid-lake launch. Katherine Landing (AZ, near Davis Dam) is the southern launch. Willow Beach (AZ, near Hoover Dam) is the northern launch and the gateway to the trout water.

Best fishing on Mohave

The trout fishery is the most distinctive thing about Mohave. Powerbait off the bank near Willow Beach, or trolling small spoons and Rapalas in 30–60 ft, will produce stocked rainbows. The striper fishing is best from Cottonwood Cove south, in the deeper main-lake water; same vertical-jigging and downlined- anchovy program as Lake Mead.

Mohave is the right pick when you want fewer boats, a calmer fishing experience, and the option to mix species in a single trip.

Frequently asked questions

Is Lake Mohave better than Lake Mead?

Smaller, quieter, and trout-friendly. Mead has more striper boil action and more open water. Mohave is the better pick if you want a lower-pressure experience or specifically want to target rainbow trout.

Can I fish all of Mohave in one day?

Practically, no — the lake is 67 miles long. Pick a section (north for trout, central/south for stripers) and fish it well rather than trying to cover the whole lake.
